Coco
Release Date:
November 22nd
Official Website:
http://movies.disney.com/coco
Story:
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history.
My Thoughts:
I am willing to give Disney / Pixar the benefit of the doubt when it comes to animated movies. There recent track record has been hit or miss, but overall it's safe to assume that this will be a good movie . That being said it does look very similar to the 2014 animated movie "Book of Life" so can this movie escape the shadow of that great movie and be something truly special and recapture the Disney magic of yesteryear ?
Blade Runner 2049
Release Date:
October 6th
Official Website:
http://bladerunnermovie.com/
Story:
Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
My Thoughts:
The original “Blade Runner” was a Sci-Fi movie exemplar. The movie was ahead of its time with amazing visuals and a truly fascinating story. Can this sequel capture the magic of the original and make a movie that modern audiences can enjoy? Will this movie influence another generation of Science Fiction like the original did ?
Thor Ragnarok
Release Date:
November 3rd
Official Website:
http://marvel.com/movies/movie/222/thor_ragnarok
Story:
Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok—the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization—at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger—the Incredible Hulk! Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi and returns Chris Hemsworth starring as Thor and Tom Hiddleston reprising his role as Loki. They are joined by Cate Blanchett, Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban, with Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Hopkins.
My Thoughts:
The previous Thor movies were far from great but this one looks dramatically different. I worry that the trailers have spoiled too much of the movie . Can this movie succeed where the previous movies couldn’t?
Justice League
Release Date:
November 17th
Official Website:
http://www.justiceleaguethemovie.com/
Story:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
My Thoughts:
I know WB is rushing this movie into existence. Some people hate these recent DC comics movies, while others really love them. Yet I refuse to underestimate this movie, simply because it’s the collaborative effort of Zack Synder and Josh Whedon. I like both directors and I think this movie has tons of potential to be a mega hit. Wonder Woman was the biggest movie of this summer so can this movie be one of the biggest movies of Autumn ?
The Lego Ninjago Movie
Release Date:
September 22nd 2017
Official Website:
http://www.legoninjagomovie.com/
Story:
A new animated adventure in Warner Bros. Pictures’ LEGO® franchise, The LEGO NINJAGO® Movie stars Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Fred Armisen, Abbi Jacobson, Olivia Munn, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña, Zach Woods, and the legendary Jackie Chan. In this big-screen NINJAGO adventure, the battle for NINJAGO City calls to action young Master Builder Lloyd, aka the Green Ninja, along with his friends, who are all secret ninja warriors. Led by Master Wu, as wise-cracking as he is wise, they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon, The Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd’s dad. Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas, who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their inner power.
My Thoughts:
I have enjoyed the previous Lego movies but I fear that this movie is a bridge too far. The story looks fun but not as compelling as the previous two movies. NINJAGO is an already an established franchise so will the fans be able to accept this movie? Will people unfamiliar with NINJAGO franchise be able to enjoy this movie? Are they doing too many Lego movies too quickly?
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
Release Date:
December 15th
Official Website:
http://www.starwars.com/
Story:
The further adventures of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Rey (Daisy Ridley).
My Thoughts:
It's Star Wars, enough said . Seriously though the previous two Star Wars movies have been massive hits and I fully expect this one to follow suit . I loved Episode VII and I enjoyed Rogue One, so this movie has some huge shoes to fill. Can this movie live up to the sky high expectations ?
