Poltergeist 2015 Review
Poltergeist (2015)
Review Written By: Adolph Vega
3D
The 3D visuals within this movie are very sharp and presented in a fashion that works well for a horror movie. Both 3D depth and pop out are used well to give you a sense of fear and dread. My two favorite 3D scenes involve a drill and a drone and those two scenes give the viewer a real sense of being in the action. The 3D at times can take a back seat and be forgotten in many scenes within the movie. The 3D is a nice improvement to the movie, but not necessary to enjoy the film.
Final Verdict: Good 3D
Movie:
This movie is a remake of the 1982 movie by the same name, and to be fair to this movie I won’t directly compare it to the original. The plot of Poltergeist revolves around an average family that moves into a new house and experiences paranormal activity. This family includes a mother, father and three children and all of them have a specific part to play within this film. This paranormal activity happening to this family cannot be explained and has become out of control for the family. This movie has plenty of thrilling and terrifying scenes with some fantastic disturbing imagery but fails completely at building suspense. Overall the movie feels rushed with many plot points happening with minimal build up or tension. I feel this movie needed more time to develop the characters and scenario and allow you to soak in the atmosphere. All the characters within this movie are simple with little if any backstory. The movie does have a subplot regarding the finical aspect of the parents of the family. This financial subplot is a negative distraction and not useful to the mail plot. I felt all the actors did a poor job in delivering lines and dialog within the movie. Many characters are never named and are added so quickly it’s hard to care about them. The movie does attempt humor to soften the tone of the movie, but only succeeds half of the time. When the humor fails it’s because the jokes feel forced, and corny. Overall I found the movie scary but lacking in many key aspects. I wish the movie was longer and gave you more suspense and fleshed out the characters and plot more.
Final Score: 5/10
