CinemaBlend reports on Real D new “Ultimate Screens” that dramatically improve 3D element in 3D Movies

CinemaBlend recently posted an article with firsthand (or eye if you prefer) experience with the new “Ultimate Screen “ technology from Real D . Here are some notable quotes from the article:

“ Currently available in select global markets, with the intention to implement it into more movie theaters soon, the Ultimate Screen is designed to improve 3D presentation. ”

“ Suitable for both 2D and 3D presentations, RealD's Ultimate Screen offers a stereo contrast ration of 1000:1, which instantly reduces ghosting on images (subtitles on 3D movies, for example, create all sorts of problems that are reduced or eliminated by the Ultimate Screen) and does away with "speckle" that occurs in 3D movies. ”

“  This revolutionary innovation makes so much sense, it's somewhat shocking that it hasn't happened sooner, and in more locations. ”

The “ Ultimate Screen” seems like a fantastic upgrade for 3D Movies and it does four major things:

  • Makes the 3D brighter
  • Makes the 3D sharper
  • Cleans up the quality of the image
  • Dramatically decreases 3D ghosting (double images)

Real D is going to be slowly implementing this technology world wide in the coming months and years ahead.

Titanic 3D to be re-released on December 1st

Titanic 3D to be re-released on December 1st

James Cameron’s “Titanic” has been set for a 20th anniversary re-release in the Dolby Vision technology in 87 AMC theaters for a week, starting on Dec. 1.

Dolby Laboratories, Paramount Pictures, and AMC Theatres made the announcement Wednesday with AMC launching online ticket sales. The blockbuster, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet and won 11 Academy Awards, will be shown in 3D at 20 locations.

“We mastered a few minutes of ‘Titanic’ in Dolby Vision and I was stunned,” Cameron said. “It was like seeing it for the first time. Now that the entire film has been mastered, I’m excited to share it with audiences across the U.S.”

“This is beyond 3D, beyond 70mm, it’s beyond anything you’ve seen before,” he added. “The image leaps off the screen as bright and vibrant as life itself. This is the way all movies should be seen and without a doubt, ‘Titanic’ has NEVER looked better.”

Cameron, who is in production on four “Avatar” sequels, won the Oscar for best director for “Titanic.” The movie grossed $2.18 billion worldwide for Paramount and Fox, which co-financed the original movie. The only movie to score a higher gross is “Avatar” at $2.8 billion.

“James Cameron shares our vision for creating the world’s best cinematic experiences,” said Doug Darrow of Dolby Laboratories. “Our partnership with James and Paramount Pictures has enabled us to showcase a masterpiece of theater in the most incredible way, leveraging Dolby Vision to breathe new life into one of the most awarded films in the history of cinema. ‘Titanic’ at Dolby Cinema is truly a can’t-miss experience.”
