Snapchat introduces new 3D camera selfie mode

“Today we’re excited to introduce a 3D Camera Mode that adds depth to your Snaps. Use it to create Snaps that capture spatial detail, changing in perspective and appearance based on how you move your phone when you view them. These new Snaps look different, act different, and feel different.

We’re also introducing new 3D Effects that you can swipe on in the Filter Carousel. Together they feel life-like and magical, bringing your world and experience to life in a way that's a step closer to the real thing.

We’re releasing this new capability on a small handful of phones to start with, but any phone can receive and interact with one of these Snaps. If you come across one of these new kinds of Snaps in a Story, you can bring it to life by giving your phone a wiggle.

Happy Snapping!

Team Snap”

The 3D camera feature requires an iPhone with Face ID technology. The current iPhone models with Face ID technology are the following : X, XR, XS, XS Max, 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max. This aspect is briefly mentioned in the video above when it states “3D Camera Mode currently available on iPhone X and above”. We decided to highlight and further explain this aspect since this text is very small and is shown very briefly in the video. This appears to be an Apple exclusive feature since other products use different technology. The 2018 iPad Pro also has Face ID technology. It is not known at this time if the iPad Snapchat app will also be compatible with the 3D Camera feature.

3D Instagram A case for a Nintendo 3DS App

Recently I worked on an article for another website:

3Dwiggle.com

They have software that lets you change 3D pictures and make them into wiggle GIFs. These animated GIFs give the illusion of 3D by wiggling .

See examples below:

This 3D GIF is from the Nintendo 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land .

This 3D GIF is from the Nintendo 3DS game Animal Crossing New Leaf

This 3D photo was taken via Nintendo 3DS at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History

This article is about the popular application Instagram and I make the case for a Nintendo 3DS application. Here is a small sample from the blog post:

Currently, Instagram is not an available for download for the Nintendo 3DS at the Nintendo e-shop. There is a possibility of accessing Instagram via the Nintendo 3DS built-in web browser, but the experience is far from ideal. I believe this is a huge missed opportunity both for Nintendo and Instagram. It’s a missed opportunity for fans of stereoscopic 3D photography and within this blog post I will discuss the possibility of Instagram for the Nintendo 3DS.
