Captain Marvel 3-D Movie Review

Captain Marvel 3D Movie Review

3D

The 3D presentation in this movie never wowed me, but overall I did enjoy it. The movie mostly uses 3D depth. Pop-out 3D scenes are rare in this movie. The movie has several scenes with long hallways and the 3D depth compliments these forced perspective shots. Several space scenes look very nice in 3D. The 3D is a nice yet unnecessary addition to this movie.  I can mildly recommend watching this movie in 3D.

Final Verdict: Good 3D

Movie

Captain Marvel is the first female led Marvel cinematic movie. It is a self-contained movie that showcases a different perspective to the super hero origin story.

Captain Marvel is set in the 1990’s and has a non-linear storyline. Flashbacks are a key component of this story. The main character of Carol Danvers goes on a journey of self-discovery. The skrulls are a shape shifting alien species that arrive on earth and Carol Danvers is determined to stop them. While visiting earth Carol meets up with Nick Fury from Shield. Carol Danvers and Nick Fury are together for the majority of this sci-fi adventure. The story has many interesting twists and turns. When the movie begins it can be slightly confusing. Don’t worry eventually everything explains itself and makes sense (sort of).

Character development of Carol Danvers is the main component of this movie. Brie Larson portrays the character of Captain Marvel. This performance changes dramatically within the movie. At first she has a cold aloof robotic personality, but as she discovers the truth she becomes a more likable warm protagonist. Samual L Jackson reprises his role of Nick Fury and is a real delight in this movie. Nick Fury has been in several Marvel films but you have never seen him like this. Unlike other Marvel films this isn’t just an extended cameo for Nick Fury. This movie essentially is a buddy movie with Nick Furry and Carol Danvers. They have great chemistry together.

I enjoyed the movie but I didn’t love it. The movie is all over the place with pacing. It starts off fast paced but it really drags in the middle. The movie really ramps up during the ending. The acting for secondary characters is average at best. The action scenes are fun but some of quick cuts and strange camera positions can be jarring to the eye. The movie opens up several plot holes for the marvel cinematic universe. Some of the comedic elements seem forced and too obvious. Captain Marvel is a good not great movie.

Overall I did enjoy my time with this movie. It is far from perfect but it’s a good foundation to build upon and I look forward to seeing more of this character in the future. Captain Marvel is not a marvelous film, but it is still worthy of your time.

Final Verdict: 7/10

3D

Depth based 3D is the main star of this show and it works well for this movie. The depth gives the viewer a greater sense of scale which is an important factor for a movie where the main characters can shrink and or become gigantic. Pop out 3D is rarely used within this movie. One car chase toward the end of the movie looks especially strong in 3D. Other CGI scenes in the quantum realm also look very nice in 3D. The 3D aspect is always present but not always apparent and in many scenes it’s fairly subtle. One interesting use of the 3D is how they present the character of the Wasp when she is flying around in a miniature state. It appears that the wasp character is in a different layer of 3D and doesn’t easily blend in with the background. Many people may not catch this detail, but I did and found it to be ingenious. I imagine watching this movie in 2D it might be difficult at times to see the Wasp buzz around because she might blend in with elements of the background. The 3D never wows the audience but it’s a nice visual enhancement and I can recommend it.

Final Verdict: Good 3D

Movie

Ant-Man and the Wasp is the direct sequel to the 2015 Ant-Man movie but in many ways this movie is also a mini sequel to Captain America Civil War. For anyone wondering this movie takes place shortly before the events of Avengers Infinity War but is relatively self-contained. Ant-Man (Scott Lang) is in house arrest after being caught fighting with the Avengers. Dr. Hank Pym has needs the assistance of Scott Lang in getting a specialized quantum part to help him in a personal mission within the quantum realm. A villain called Ghost wants the specialized quantum part and attempts to intercept it from Dr. Pym, Ant-Man and the Wasp. The movie has a secondary villain which is a gangster that wants to use Hank Pym’s advanced technology for his shady purposes . Another antagonist is the FBI which is keeping track on Scott Lang and wants to make sure he stays at home. The movie has allot of things happen at the same time .

Easily the best aspect of the movie is the comedic element . I haven’t laughed this often or this hard in years. The jokes and comedic elements feel natural because of the excellent dialogue, writing, and excellent character moments. The comedic aspect is interwoven brilliantly into the action scenes. Speaking of which I found the action scenes to be very well executed and clever . The movie fully utilized the micro / macro element of the characters and scenario. The original Ant-Man movie was a very funny movie but I thought this movie was funnier.

Sadly the plot is the weakest aspect of the movie. The movie juggles many story aspects and sadly drops the ball on a few key plot points. The idea behind the ghost villain is intriguing but the execution of this character is fairly generic and underwhelming. The secondary villain is poorly acted and is mostly frivolous. The FBI element is a somewhat fun game of cat and mouse.  Will they or won’t they catch Scott Lang this time ? The FBI dynamic is cute at first but they over do it. The movie is overstuffed with too many characters and unnecessary subplots that are underdeveloped and simply not needed.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie despite its flaws. The comedic aspect and action are superb . The story sadly falls apart and is subpar.

Final Verdict: 7/10

Avengers Infinity War 3D Movie Review

Avengers Infinity War 3D Movie Review

3D

Simply put “Avengers Infinity War” looks fabulous in 3D. I watched this movie in IMAX 3D and I was blown away. The 3D in this movie looks incredibly crisp and bright. This movie was made for 3D. Dozens of scenes use pop out 3D in fun ways. Several scenes use 3D depth for a greater sense of scale. The 3D in this movie is not perfect and has some minor issues. A few scenes are darkly lit, and 3D and darker scenes don’t work well together.  These scenes are few and far between so it doesn’t sour this overall excellent 3D presentation . The 3D usage is especially fascinating in the final scenes of the movie. I can’t really discuss this without massive spoilers, but needless to say I was both stunned and impressed. The 3D element of  “Avengers Infinity War” doesn’t feel like an after thought. The 3D and the story elements of “Avengers Infinity War” go hand in hand for an unforgettable cinematic 3D experience. I applaud the brilliant use of 3D visuals within this film . I don’t want to see this movie in 2D. I strongly suggest experiencing this movie in IMAX 3D. This movie was shot entirely with digital IMAX cameras so watching this in a IMAX theater is ideal. Overall this is a MUST WATCH IN 3D movie, and I shall give it my highest recommendation.

Final Verdict: Great 3D , Editors Choice 3D Award

Movie

“Avengers Infinity War” is the amazing capstone of nearly 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I walked into the movie theater with the highest expectations, and I left the movie theater stunned and shook to my core. Wow this movie is epic. I was worried that no movie could manage such a huge cast, and this movie feels perfectly balanced and gives everyone meaningful screen time and lines. Thanos is the villain of this movie and he is perfectly executed by Josh Brolin. The motivations for Thanos are clearly presented and his arguments are both interesting and well conceived. Thanos is a strong villain because of his abilities and for his presence on screen. Thanos is the greatest Marvel Cinematic Universe villain. This movie has it all. This movie has an excellent comedic element. The movie has heart and many touching performances and scenes. The movie knows when to slow down and have excellent character scenes. The  movie has amazing action set pieces that are truly epic. The action choreography is simply incredible. The superb fight scenes are second to none and are breathtaking and exciting to watch. This movie is extremely entertaining and is a pure delight. This movie is truly something special and Marvel has done it again. This movie not only lives up to the hype, but it exceeds it. The stakes are extremely high in this movie and I loved the many bold choices that were made in this movie. That being said the movie leaves the audience with many obvious questions and unresolved issues. It doesn’t bother me because I feel like they completed the story that was presented. I want to see this movie again and again. It left me wanting more and I am confident that future Marvel movies will deal with the aftermath from this movie.  The movie does an excellent job of being semi self contained and building upon the previous Marvel movies. Ultimately this movie feels both satisfying and earned and is the perfect accumulation of the entire Marvel Cinematic movie Universe. I laughed, I cried, I cheered, and I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end as I watched “Avengers Infinity War” . This movie is the best Marvel movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and boldly pushes the franchise forward in interesting and compelling ways. I could not have asked for or wanted a better movie than “Avengers Infinity war”. This is one of the most amazing movies that I have seen in years; in fact this might be one of my favorite movies of all time. “Avengers Infinity War” is the most ambitious movie of all time and it completely succeeds in every regard. “Avengers Infinity War” might be the greatest & most entertaining movie of all time. With the highest praise that I can possibly give, I must give this movie a perfect score. “Avengers Infinity War” is one the greatest achievements in the history of cinema, and I applaud Disney for making such a marvelous movie.
